What ingredients do i need to make banana bread?

If you love banana bread but don't have time to go out and buy it from the bakery, why not make your own? Making banana bread is surprisingly easy, with only a few ingredients, and makes a great sweet treat that you can enjoy anytime. Here's what you need to make homemade banana bread.

The first and most important ingredient for making banana bread are, of course, bananas! Make sure you use spotty or overripe bananas for the best flavor – this is what gives the bread its moist texture. You'll need 3 medium-sized bananas in total.

In addition to the bananas, you'll also need some standard baking ingredients – namely sugar, butter (or margarine if preferred), eggs and flour. You'll want two eggs (beaten), 8 tbsp of melted butter or margarine, ½ cup white granulated sugar and 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour (sifted).

You'll also need some additional flavors to spice up your banana bread – most recipes use an array of spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves but feel free to mix it up with your own favorite flavors! Baking soda is another necessary ingredient – this makes sure that the bread rises well when baking. For extra taste and texture, why not add some walnuts or chocolate chips too?

Once all your ingredients are ready it's time to start baking! Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F/175°C fan setting (or 180°C/350°F for non-fan). Take a large bowl and mix together the flour and baking soda before adding in all the other dry ingredients - sugar, spices etc. In a smaller bowl mash up the 3 bananas before stirring through the melted butter or margarine then add everything into the larger bowl along with 2 beaten eggs until everything is combined together well. Once mixed spoon into a greased loaf tin then bake in preheated oven for roughly an hour or until a skewer comes out clean when dipped into centre of the loaf. Leave to cool before enjoying warm!
